Doctors Want To Pull Plug On Brain-Dead Baby

Father Faces Charges

POSTED: 7:51 am EDT April 14, 2004

A Summit County probate judge will hold a hearing on the fate of a 5-month-old Mansfield baby Wednesday.

Judge Bill Spicer must decide whether Aiden Stien will live or die after doctors say he was shaken so hard that he is now brain dead, NewsChannel5 reported.

The baby's father is being investigated on charges of shaking of him. Aiden suffered severe skull and brain injuries while in his father's care on March 15.

The baby's parents are fighting attempts by doctors at Akron Children's Hospital to withdraw life support for their comatose son.

Arica Heimlich and Matthew Stein say they believe miracles can happen.
