BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A woman in her mid-20s says she was attacked early Tuesday morning in the rest area off Interstate 77 in Summit County.
The rest area off I-77 northbound in Bath Township near Ghent Road reopened after officials collected evidence. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the alleged assault happened just after midnight. The woman said she was heading home from a friend's house when she stopped to use the bathroom. She said a man walked in and assaulted her. The woman was able to drive somewhere else and get help. Troopers can't recall when something like this has ever happened in a rest area before. "I can't recall where we've had anything of this nature happen at one of these facility. Thousands of people use the facilities each year. We never have any problems," said Lt. George T. Maier. The woman was taken to a hopsital. She is said to be fine. She says she did not know her attacker. No description of the man has been released.
