Police were forced to intervene when a meeting concerning a missing 14-year-old gave way to some emotional outbursts.

The purpose of Wednesday night's meeting at Wilbur Wright Middle School was to address safety concerns in light of Gina DeJesus' disappearance.

DeJesus disappeared from a west side neighborhood last Friday while walking home from school.

Police and FBI investigators have been working around-the-clock to find her. The meeting was organized to discuss the safety of the neighborhood, the same neighborhood where 17-year-old Amanda Berry disappeared nearly a year ago.

The packed school meeting soon turned into a blistering war of words, many directed at the city, Mayor Jane Campbell, and how the city handles missing children cases.

Politics soon overshadowed the discussion of school safety, and issues such as police layoffs came to the floor.

Campbell, who was in attendance, found herself on the receiving end of people's frustrations.

"I want to talk to you not about politics but about the business of looking for this child," said Campbell.

Some good things came out of the meeting as well. Thursday morning, police will meet with students at Wilbur Wright and try to find out anything they might remember about when they last saw or spoke with DeJesus.

City council members also organized a special search for Saturday in which they will canvass the neighborhood.

DeJesus was last seen near West 110th Street and Lorain. She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a powder-blue coat, a white hooded top, black stretch pants and white tennis shoes.

If you have any information, call Cleveland police at (216) 621-1234.
