PARMA, Ohio -- About 250 local mosque members voted Sunday on whether the Imam should continue leading prayer.
With emtions running high, 177 to 49 voted decided to keep Imam Fawaz Damra with the mosque. Damra, 41, is accused of having ties to terrorist groups, NewsChannel5 reported. He has pleaded not guilty to a federal indictment of obtaining U.S. citizenship in 1994 by providing false information. Some members of the mosque wanted him placed on leave while he defended himself. Damra's lawyer asked that he be allowed to continue leading prayer until his trial. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Tim McCormick approved the vote to resolve tension between factions at the Islamic Center of Cleveland, in Parma, concerning Damra.
