COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Arkansas state seal accidentally appeared on Ohio driver's licenses and state identification cards that were issued earlier in the week, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced Friday. The error was limited to customers visiting the Alum Creek Customer Service Center in Columbus on Wednesday.According to the BMV, laminates that cover licenses and ID cards were used displaying the Arkansas state seal rather than Ohio's were used after a flawed shipment was sent to the BMV by a manufacturing vendor. The BMV has a contract with Viisage Technologies of Littleton, Mass., to supply the laminates. The state said that 41 individuals were affected by the error.Once the problem was revealed, all deputy registrar agencies and customer service centers throughout the state were alerted and advised to ensure no licenses or ID cards with the wrong laminates were issued."We have been working to correct the problem since it was first reported, and apologize for any inconvenience," said BMV Registrar Frank Caltrider. "We are taking the initiative to contact those who received the incorrect laminate to make arrangements to replace them free of charge."The customers were to be notified starting Friday by telephone and mail to return their licenses and ID cards in exchange for new ones. New licenses will be sent with return envelopes for the incorrect licenses to be sent back to the BMV.
