Woman's Three Children Are American Citizens

Congressman and presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich started a crusade to help keep a local woman from being deported, reported NewsChannel5.

Amina Silmi

Amina Silma, a mother of three, moved to the United States from Venezuela 13 years ago. She received notice that she will be deported because her visitor's visa had expired.

Silma's three children, ages 11, 6 and 5, are American citizens.

At a press conference Thursday, Kucinich promised to move heaven and earth to keep the family together.

He has written to homeland security chief Tom Ridge, asking that the deportation be stopped while the case is reviewed.

"We cannot let them be separated from their mother by virtue of some decision made strictly by the book. There's a book of life as well that we ought to be reading here," said Kucinich.

In addition to the Ridge letter, Kucinich said he will introduce a bill in Congress to grant Silma citizenship.
