CLEVELAND -- A late night deal is likely to save 21 paramedic jobs, NewsChannel5 reported.
The city and the Cleveland Association of Rescue Employees reached a tentative agreement Wednesday night.
Neither side is talking about the details of the deal.
"The bulk of it is how we do things internally," said Fredrick Johns. "So that's where a lot of the creative thinking came into place -- where we were able to say there's things we can do differently that would equate to dollars saved which would equate to jobs saved."
Union members will vote on the new contract Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, the firefighter and police unions will go to court today to request a temporary restraining order preventing layoffs.
The city is facing a $61 million deficit and Mayor Jane Campbell has proposed laying off hundreds of safety workers.
Cleveland leaders, firefighters and police union officials are behind close doors with a judge and federal mediator.
They're trying to agree on planned layoffs of safety forces.
If they don't agree, a court hearing will go forward.
