Selling fake purses may not sound like a crime, but it is illegal.

The rage among women has been designer purse parties, featuring knockoffs of designers such as Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Couch and Burberry.

According to NewsChannel5, Westlake police are cracking down on the buying and selling of these purses. It just made a major bust to get those knockoffs off the street.

Westlake police got a tip that someone from the store My Generations was pedaling designer fake purses.

"We sent an undercover officer in to one of the parties selling the purses and made a buy," said Lt. Ray Arcuri.

At this party, police seized $8,000 to $10,000 worth of watches, purses, wallets and sunglasses. The two women involved in this case are facing up to a year in prison.

This is not the first time Westlake police made a bust like this. They seized similar things from a Strongsville home in January.

U.S. trade representatives estimate that counterfeit merchandise costs U.S. companies over $250 billion a year.
