CLEVELAND -- The FBI said that a missing girl's family received a phone call from a man claiming to have her, reported NewsChannel5's Tony Gaskins.
One week after 17-year-old Amanda Berry disappeared in April, a man called the Berrys using the girl's cell phone. He reportedly said that he had Berry and would release her in a couple of days.
The man never contacted the Berry family again. Berry's mother said she did not recognize the voice of the caller.
Berry disappeared seven months ago on her way home from her job at a local Burger King restaurant.
Berry was last seen at West 110th and Lorain on April 21, just a couple of blocks from her home.
The FBI believes the man who called is among the strongest leads in this case.
The FBI and the Cleveland Police Department are asking anyone with information on this phone call or with any information on the disappearance of Amanda Berry to contact the FBI at (216) 522-1400 or the Cleveland Police Department at (216) 623-5118.
