CLEVELAND -- As police wait for more forensic evidence to be processed they continue their intense investigation into the murder of 11-year-old Shakira Johnson.
Cleveland police for the first time have named a suspect in the little girl's death. Police Commander Edward Tomba told NewsChannel5 Thursday that Dan Hines, 25, is a suspect. "He's one of many. That's why I believe the stations and everyone are reporting it, because he is in custody and has been in custody for quite a while on an unrelated crime," Tomba said. NewsChannel5 was first to tell you about Hines. Reporter Paul Kiska said that a copy of court records show Hines faces charges of attempted rape involving a young girl in an unrelated case. He appeared in court Wednesday. Hines lives at East 106th Street and Benham Road -- the same area where Shakira was last seen. NewsChannel5 was there last month when police towed a car and van registered to Hines' address. Police have also questioned Hines and several others about Shakira's disappearance. "Today's search is one of the final steps looking for any type physical evidence. Not him in particular, we want to link evidence to a crime suspect, whoever committed it," Tomba said. Shakira disappeared back in early September and her body was found last week and positively identified this week. If you have any information about this case, you can call Crime Stoppers at (216) 252-7463.
