CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- A school bus driver was found guilty Wednesday and fined for flipping her bus on its side last month in Pickaway County.
The driver, Lani Davis, 44, was found guilty of failing to control her Logan Elm School District bus. She was fined the maximum penalty of $100. She also has to pay court costs.A video camera inside the bus showed children tumbling and screaming Sept. 30 as the bus rolled onto its side on Morris-Leist Road near Logan Elm High School."I was heading toward the school and came up over the crest of the hill," Davis said Monday. "A car was in my lane and so I swerved to keep from hitting it head-on and went off the road."Davis said there was no berm on the road, so she brought the bus into a ditch. When she fought to bring the bus back onto the road, the vehicle "slingshotted" to the left side of the road. Davis said she tried to get the bus back up on the road."My front end made it but the back end just didn't clear the ditch and it rolled over," Davis said.None of the 30 students on the bus was seriously injured. Davis has been a driver for Logan Elm for four years.
