CLEVELAND -- A tip call from a phone booth led police to what is now believed to be Shakira Johnson's body, NewsChannel5 reported.
Donna Butler noticed a white car pull at the booth and moments later the area of East 49th Street and Pershing was crawling with Cleveland police officers."They dusted it for prints, and they did take the phone when they left," Butler said.WEWS talked with Dr. Mary Myers, a former homicide commander for the Akron police department. She said a phone can yield a lot more evidence than one may think. She is retired from the police department.
"Some of the epithelial cells from the lips easily fall," said Myers who is also a criminal justice professor at the University of Akron. "It's a good source of DNA, perhaps spit, we exude droplets even though we aren't aware of it."Investigators also found clothing belonging to Johnson at the crime scene. It will likely prove to be rich with clues like fibers and hairs. She added that there is potentially a lot of forensic evidence such as the contents of her stomach and how well it is digested.Recent weather may have disrupted the crime scene, but Myers believes a break in the case will come."A little girl killed somewhere here in Cleveland, somebody heard something," she said.
