HOLMES COUNTY, Ohio -- A Holmes county man pleaded not guilty to murder and involuntary manslaughter charges today. Marion Weaver, 58, of Benton, is accused of shooting and killing an Amish man Sept. 1.
Steven Keim, 23, of Orrville, was shot while in a cornfield, where he and 10 others were hiding, throwing tomatoes and firing paintball guns at passing vehicles. The prank is a common late-summer ritual in Amish areas of northeast Ohio.
Weaver was arrested Sept. 16, and officials seized weapons from his car, including a 12-gauge shotgun believed to be the murder weapon.
Weaver attended his arraignment in a wheelchair. His bond continues to be set at $250,000.
The trial is scheduled to take place in December.
