CLEVELAND -- Several Cleveland police officers and dogs searched Whiskey Island all day Friday in connection with the case of a missing 11-year-old girl, NewsChannel5 reported.
Neither the officers nor the search dogs found anything during the search, but they said they will not give up. Apparently, officials received a tip from an anonymous caller who said, "If you want to find Shakira Johnson, just go to Whiskey Island." The island is east of Edgewater Park.Police would not say what else made them think the call was legitimate and not a prank. Officials have reportedly received hundreds of calls about the case over the last couple of weeks. Officials would also not say whether they had narrowed down any suspects in the girl's disappearance. Shakira Johnson disappeared nearly two weeks ago after attending a block party in her neighborhood near East 106th Street and Benham. Police searched at least two homes and confiscated one vehicle Thursday. Officials swept a 3-mile area near the girl's home, targeting 40 people wanted on outstanding felony warrants. Twelve of those people were wanted for sex-related crimes. They were looking for anyone who could possibly provide information on Shakira's disappearance. Police found and arrested nine of the 40 people. They are hoping the arrests can generate some leads. The 11-year-old is about 4 feet 7 inches tall and 70 pounds. She has light brown eyes, and her sandy brown hair was in a ponytail when she disappeared. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to where Shakira might be. Call (216) 252-7463 with information regarding the girl's disappearance.
