CLEVELAND -- Police searched at least two homes and confiscated one vehicle Thursday in their search for Shakira Johnson.
The 11-year-old (pictured, below) disappeared nearly two weeks ago after attending a block party in her neighborhood near East 106th Street and Benham. NewsChannel5's Leon Bibb reported that the houses searched by officials are reportedly owned by the same person and are within a three-block radius of Shakira's family's home. Officials used a court-approved search warrant to tow away a blue vehicle from one of the homes. The search of the second home, located at East 108th Street and Union, yielded nothing. "We have enough probable cause... and the judge found it necessary that we search his house," said police Lt. Gary McGinty. McGinty would not comment on anything else regarding the case or what evidence police have.
Meanwhile, officials swept a 3-mile area near the girl's home Thursday, targeting 40 people wanted on outstanding felony warrants. Twelve of those people are wanted for sex-related crimes. They were looking for anyone who could possibly provide information on Shakira's disappearance. Police found and arrested nine of the 40 people. They are hoping the arrests can generate some leads. The 11-year-old is about 4 feet 7 inches tall and 70 pounds. She has light brown eyes, and her sandy brown hair was in a ponytail when she disappeared. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to where Shakira might be. Call (216) 252-7463 with information regarding the girl's disappearance.
