ELYRIA, Ohio -- A local teenager is missing after vanishing from her Lorain County home, according to officials.
NewsChannel5's Debora Lee reported that police believe the Internet may hold the key to her disappearance.
Like many 15-year-olds, Aschliee Everett spends a lot of time on the computer. Now, police believe she may be with a 40-year-old man she met online.
"I just miss my daughter and I want her home," said Michael Everett, Aschliee's father.
Michael Everett hasn't seen his daughter since Monday, and he's worried sick.
Police believe Aschliee was corresponding with a man from Pennsylvania, a faceless 40-year-old hanging out in an Internet chat room.
"My biggest concern is whoever she's with, (he is not) letting her call," Everett said. "My daughter would call and say, 'Daddy, I'm fine,' and she's not calling me."
Elyria police Capt. Daniel Jaykel said parents should always ask questions and know what their kids are doing and to whom they're talking online.
"They make these connections," Jaykel said. "The parents are unaware and they make arrangements to leave the house secretly to meet this individual. And you know as well as I something terrible could happen. We're trying to avoid that right now."
Elyria detectives aren't sure whether Aschliee is still in the area or in Pennsylvania. They're working with Philadelphia police to track down the 40-year-old, known only as "Mike."
Anyone who has seen Aschliee or who has any information on her disappearance is urged to call the Elyria Police Department at (440) 322-3465.
