AKRON, Ohio -- Four men accused in a gang rape were arraigned in an Akron court today, NewsChannel5 reported.
Police said four men snatched a 13-year-old Akron girl off the street and forced her to perform sex acts.A juvenile is also accused of being involved. The adults are Mark Conwell, 18; Darrell Clay, 18; Jimmy Schmidt , 20; and Davon Debman, 20. They appeared in court by closed circuit television hookup and now face two counts of rape, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of gross sexual imposition and a count of sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.Last month, a 13-year-old mentally challenged girl was waiting outside a store as her brother and a cousin went inside to buy candy.Police said the men lured her away to the basement of a nearby home where they held the girl down and forced her to perform sex acts.Police say the girl's mental condition is such that she doesn't always understand danger.The four men are being held on $1 million bond.In the meantime, more indictments have been handed down for another suspect accused of intimidating the alleged victim's family.The homeowner, Dennis Tudor, faces a count of permitting drug abuse. Police said he accepted crack cocaine from the men in return for him letting them use his basement.Each man faces two counts of kidnapping and one count of rape and is being held on $1 million bond.Police said each suspect has admitted to his role in the crime.
