PARMA, Ohio -- Sunny, a Golden retriever that has lived at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Parma for more than three years, disappeared Thursday night.
Police from Parma, Seven Hills and Broadview Heights all stepped in to help find the pooch, but it was a NewsChannel5 viewer who solved the case.
Live On Five Investigator Jodi Brooks reported that Sunny was returned to the center Monday by a woman who said someone gave her the dog Friday evening. She said she was going to keep Sunny because her kids liked him, but then she saw the story on NewsChannel5.
No one knows who took the dog, but the residents are extremely happy he's back. They said he's a source of comfort and therapy for them.
The seniors were also worried about Sunny being gone because the dog has ear infections and needs medication. They also said Sunny doesn't like strangers.
Apparently, Sunny was visible from a side street and wasn't locked in the yard. Staff and residents believe someone unhooked the dog from his chain and led him away.
Officials at the center said they will make sure Sunny doesn't get loose again.
