POSTED: 1:14 pm EDT May 11, 2003

Grief grips the Case Western Reserve University community, NewsChannel5 reported.

A student's murder has brought a deep and solemn feeling to the campus. At the university's Peter B. Lewis Building, Norman Wallace is remembered with flowers.

Wallace, 30, was killed when a gunman broke down a door with a sledgehammer and started shooting randomly. Police have arrested Biswanath Halder, 62, He has not been charged.

Wallace, (pictured) a Youngstown native, was pursuing his master's degree. He graduated from Calvary Christian High School.

"He had also talked about perhaps he wanted to work as an independent consultant, either with IT strategy or marketing implementation," said Rahim Rahim, a friend. "His finance skills were incredible. his critical analyses. He would have been great at any job."

Karishma Bajaj, another friend, added: "It's just someone you meet and you know you've got a good connection. You know he's a really good person. He always thought about talking to other people."

University President Edward Hundert said Halder filed a lawsuit against a university employee. Hundert declined to give the name the employee who Halder had sued. Court records show that the defendant was Shawn Miller.

A judge dismissed the defamation claim, finding that it had no merit. A subsequent appeal was dismissed last month.
