Authorities in Stark County are searching for a gunman who injured a hotel clerk during a robbery early Friday morning.

The robbery took place around 5:18 a.m. at the Days Inn on Convenience Circle N.W. in Plain Township.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office said the gunmen entered the hotel brandishing a black semiautomatic pistol and demanded money.

The clerk, 29-year-old Earl L. Cooper Jr., gave the gunman the cash drawer money, but when the gunman demanded money from the safe, Cooper tried to resist and was shot in the shoulder, deputies said.

The gunmen fled and Cooper was taken to Mercy Medical Center. His injury doesn't appear to be life-threatening.

The gunman is described as a white man in his mid- to late 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build.

The gunman was unshaven and was wearing a blue stocking cap and brown coat.

Deputies are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact the department.
