Akron Police Officers Seriously Injured In Crash

An early morning police pursuit has left two officers and two other individuals in serious condition at local hospitals.

Akron Police officials said officers were chasing a stolen Nissan Altima traveling south on Madison Avenue around 3 a.m. Thursday when it struck a police cruiser traveling south on Copley Road.

The impact of the crash caused the police cruiser to onto a curb, where it came to rest against a fire hydrant. The cruiser that was struck was attempting to help the officers involved in the pursuit.

Both the police cruiser and Nissan were severely damaged.

The driver of the Nissan, Dontrell Parker, 24, of Cleveland and his 18-year-old female passenger were both transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The injured officers were also taken to area hospitals. There names aren't being released, which is the department's policy.

The police department continues to investigate the accident.
