Berea Man Killed In 3-Car Crash

POSTED: 8:16 pm EST November 7, 2009

A 70-year-old man was killed in a three-car crash Saturday in Columbia Township.

Troopers from the Elyria Post of the Ohio Sate Highway Patrol said Robert Shuck died when his car was hit from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened at 9:43 a.m. on state Route 82.

Troopers said Shuck, of Berea, was hit from behind by and SUV driven by Nicholas Seggie, 30, while waiting to turn onto South Boone Road.

The impact forced Shuck's Honda Civic into the opposing lane of traffic, where he was struck by Joseph A Leighton, troopers said.

Shuck and Leighton were transported to Southwest General Hospital by Columbia Township EMS.

Shuck succumbed to his injuries and expired at the hospital. Leighton was treated and released for minor injuries.

All of the drivers were wearing seat belts. Troopers said alcohol and drugs are not a suspected factor in the crash.

All three vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending at this time.
