Prosecutor Grills Man Accused Of Setting Off Firecrackers
Suspect Faces 70 Years In Prison If Found Guilty

CLEVELAND -- It was an uncomfortable day on the witness stand for the man charged with setting off a powerful firecracker at Jacobs Field last summer.
NewsChannel5 reported that Andrew Mendez (pictured, left) faces four counts of aggravated arson and felonious assault.
The prosecutor in this case grilled Mendez by going after what he called "inconsistencies" in the defendant's stories.
For example, the prosecutor called him on the fact that Mendez told police he saw someone else explode the firecracker.
"How's your eyesight, Mr. Mendez?" the prosecutor asked him.
"Not too good," Mendez replied.
"Is that why you (identified) a man by the part in his hair when it turns out he was wearing a hat?" the prosecutor said.
Mendez faces a possible 70 years in prison if found guilty.
Originally, two of Mendez's friends were also charged, but their cases were dropped.
Closing arguments could begin Thursday.
