UPDATED: 1:44 pm EST November 5, 2009

One person was killed and one flown to a local hospital after a two-car crash in Amherst Township.

The Lorain Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that the crash happened at about 7:40 a.m. on Middle Ridge Road near Oberlin Road.

Geroge Thompson, 60, of Amherst, was driving his 2008 Chevy Impala north on Middleridge Road when it was hit head-on by a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by Rebecca Stottlemire, 55, of Lorain, troopers said.

Thompson's car spun off the east side of the road and went over a barrier and came to rest.

Stottlemire's SUV went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and ended up in the northbound lane hitting Thompson. She spun off east side of road into a utility pole and came to rest, troopers said.

She was transported to Amherst Hospital and flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. She was listed in critical condition.

The crash is under investigation at this time, but troopers said she will most likely be cited.
