A west-side teen is recovering after police said a group of teenagers beat him up to steal his BMX bicycle.

Now the family of David Saranzak are asking for help in finding the people responsible.

Melissa Saranzak has been staying at MetroHealth Medical Center by her brother's side, waiting for him to get better.

Police said the 18-year-old was riding his bike Monday night near West 85th Street and Detroit Avenue when he was attacked by a group of teenagers who then stole his bike.

The teen had just left his girlfriend Kaytie Claypoole's house.

"He told me he was going home and he got jumped, and they hit him with a gun on the side of his face and they put brass knuckles on and they hit him in his ears, and he just blacked out," Claypoole said.

When David regained consciousness he was lying on the street alone. He made it back to Claypoole's house and she called 911.

His family said that when they got to Metro David was in terrible shape.

"His jaw is broken in three different places, his chin is shattered. He's got a huge gash in the side of his face. He's got a fracture in the back of his skull," said Melissa Saranzak.

The family is working with police to find suspects and has a strong message for them.

"You're petty, you're pathetic. I hope you get caught. I hope you get the fullest extent of the law," Melissa Saranzak said.

Police said the suspects are still on the loose and they are still looking for David's bike.

Anyone with information about the attack should call Cleveland police.
