SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- A local Catholic high school is slated to close at the end of the school year, but now there's new hope for next year's seniors who currently attend Regina High School, in South Euclid.Notre Dame College is stepping in to help out those girls.Regina seniors have been taking classes at Notre Dame for years, and next year, seniors will be able to finish their last year of high school there and can rack up as many as 30 college credits at the same time."This is not an easy decision to come to the point where your life as an institution comes to an end. We want this to be something we can help them with and ease the transition as best we can," said Notre Dame's Roger Abood. The students wouldn't live on campus but they're welcome to participate in activities, such as band.Tuition will be the same as it was this year at Regina, saving them thousands of dollars."As I was talking to students there's a sense of this is home, and that's part of their home as well, so it just made sense," said Regina's director of guidance, Rosemary Lips. Many would like to save Regina, but that would cost millions of dollars."I think the best thing we can do is keep moving forward and being religious people. We'll never say no to a miracle," said Regina Principal Sister Margaret Gorman. There are currently 44 juniors who could participate in this dual enrollment program. It's not an option they have to choose, but the college hopes they will and also choose to stay on throughout their college years.Even though the school will have been closed for a year by then, those Regina seniors at Notre Dame will receive a Regina diploma at a special graduation ceremony.
