UPDATED: 7:34 pm EDT October 2, 2009

Five-hundred thousand people are without homes in Manila in the Philippines, while about 12 million people are still without power.

The water supply has either been cut or contaminated and more rain is expected, keeping flood waters in place.

One Akron woman and her friend are trying to help this devastated region.

They contacted NewsChannel 5 Troubleshooter Joe Pagonakis.

Now NewsChannel 5 and Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, are working with them to help get more U.S. aide to the Philippines.
