CLEVELAND -- Two northeast Ohio families know the painful certainty that their sons will not be coming home from the war with Iraq, according to NewsChannel5.
The military identified the bodies of local soldiers who were initially listed as missing in action. The Rev. Tandy Sloan, father of Pvt. Brandon Sloan (pictured, left), said he is trusting in God to help him cope with the death of his son. Sloan is associate pastor at Historic Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland. He said he is thankful for all of the support from his community and church members for his son. Sloan, 19, who was in his first tour of duty was also listed among those who were found dead. The flag in front of Bedford City Hall is at half-staff in his honor. Sloan's friends said they want Saddam Hussein's regime destroyed.
"I feel a lot safer and a lot better once they catch Saddam Hussein," said Shaunte Miller, Sloan's friend. "Just punish him. That is the only way anybody's going to have any peace in the heart, peace of mind once that whole regime is gone from over there."
Master Sgt. Robert Dowdy's cousin Dave Armonstrout recently scanned the photos his cousin e-mailed from the Kuwait-Iraq border before the invasion. Dowdy (pictured, right) and seven others of the 507th Maintenance Company were among those ambushed and later killed by Iraqi soldiers after they made the wrong turn."For the soldiers to be in a hospital and be dead at the hospital that many of them -- that tells you they were taken there because of their wounds, but they were interrogated probably," Armontrout said. "No treatment and I'm sure they made them suffer."Sloan and Dowdy were listed as missing on March 23.
