Local Soldier Among Missing After Ambush In Iraq
Family Continues To Pray

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Pvt. Brandon Sloan, a Bedford native, is among 12 soldiers missing in southern Iraq, according to NewsChannel5.
Sloan, 19, was part of an Army supply convoy that was ambushed over the weekend near An Nasiriayh. Five members of the company have been shown on Iraqi television as prisoners of war, but Sloan was not one of them.Sloan (pictured, right) is a member of the 507th Maintenance Company.His aunt, Geraldine Galloway, is not giving up hope."We pray for Brandon because we believe in the power of prayer and we know God is able to do everything," she said. "Nothing is impossible with God."Sloan withdrew from Bedford Heights High School because he wanted to join the Army. He also thought he would better himself while serving his country.Army officials notified Sloan's father, the Rev. Tandy Sloan, Sunday night.
"It certainly is a shock to learn that your son is missing in action," he said.Tandy Sloan (pictured, left), who is an associate pastor of Historic Greater Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland, described his son as God-fearing and easygoing. "He smiles easily. He's got a pleasant demeanor, and he is very loyal to his friends," he said. A liaison will remain with Brandon Sloan's family until there is some kind of news on his whereabouts. His father said the family is relying on their faith to get them through the difficult time. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for Sloan and all of the other soldiers. The service will be open to the public.
