The Ohio state fire marshal said at least six people, including four professional fireworks exhibitors, were injured as a result of fireworks incidents during the Fourth of July weekend.

The Division of State Fire Marshal also said more than 3,900 pounds of professional fireworks were seized.

State fire marshal investigators carried out a large-scale seizure in Darke County. Acting on tips, on July 1, the investigators confiscated 3,942 pounds from an individual they said did not have any valid fireworks exhibition licenses.

The division is also investigating a possible illegal fireworks show in Richland County.

An assistant fireworks exhibitor was injured during Canal Fulton's show on July 3 when the device's shell ignited in the tube. The exhibitor was treated and released at a local hospital.

An exhibitor at Van Wert's show on July 4 was injured when a shell detonated, causing flying debris. Two were injured during Lancaster's July Fourth show when two shells ignited low to the ground. All three exhibitors were treated and released.

A 21-year-old man suffered a cut to his eye after a fireworks device ignited. Charges are pending for the purchase, possession and use of illegal fireworks.

A Whitehall man was injured when a fireworks device ignited near his face and upper torso. The man remains hospitalized and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are also following up on a complaint about an alleged large fireworks exhibition at a Mansfield campground. There appears to be no permit on file.

Under Ohio law, only a licensed manufacturer or wholesaler can sell consumer fireworks. Anyone over the age of 18 may purchase these items, but must sign a form certifying that the purchaser will transport the fireworks outside the state of Ohio within 48 hours. Consumer fireworks cannot be discharged legally in the state of Ohio.
