UPDATED: 1:02 am EDT July 5, 2009

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a Virginia boy.

The crash happened at about 8:30 Friday night near the intersection of state Routes 603 and 13.

Police said the 11-year-old boy was thrown from his mother's minivan after the driver of another car ran a stop sign and hit the vehicle.

The investigation revealed Lewis was traveling southbound on Route 13 when her vehicle was struck in the left side by a 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by Andre A. Navedo, 22, of Fayetteville, N.C., troopers said. Navedo was traveling on Route 603 and failed to stop for a stop sign prior to striking Lewis' vehicle, they said. After impact, Lewis' vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment before overturning. Hunter Lewis was a passenger in the rear of the van and was ejected from the vehicle.

The boy's mother and three other passengers in the minivan survived the crash. The driver of the other car was not hurt.

Hunter M. Lewis, of Alexandria, Va., died at Mansfield Med-Central Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. Hunter was a passenger in a 1998 Dodge Caravan driven by his mother, Deborah R. Lewis, 47, who also received injuries as a result of the crash.

There was no immediate word on any charges. The crash remains under investigation and alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
