A 2-year-old girl was fatally shot in her home after two unknown men with guns entered and began firing Thursday night, police said.

Police received a 911 call around 9:50 p.m. Thursday about a shooting at a residence in the 2300 block of 14th Street Northeast.

Harmoney Sankey turned 2 last week.

"She lived with me since she was born. I watched her crawl and walk. First words, hardly all she could say was papa," said Daniel Sankey.

Late Thursday, two armed men went into Sankey's home, where he lives with his daughter and granddaughter. During the home invasion, Sankey was pistol-whipped in the back of his head and then shot in the leg.

Sankey said Harmoney ran toward her mom, but a bullet hit her in either the chest or back. She later died.

"Right now, I"m in a lot of pain in my leg, but more pain in my heart,” Sankey said. “This pain ain't nothing to me compared to the loss of my grandchild."

A warrant was issued on Friday afternoon for 21-year-old William Ferguson. Ferguson faces charges of complicity to aggravated murder. Police are still trying to identify the second suspect.

Police officials have said they do not know what the motive for the shooting was or who was the target.

No one else in the home was hurt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Canton Police Department.

Sankey's death is the 10th in Canton in the past two months.
