Police are investigating an apparent drowning of a 5-year-old Akron girl Sunday evening.

Norton police said Jaziyah Erianna DeBruce was at the Loyal Oak Lake Park with her family on a church outing, when her family noticed she was missing.

After notifying park staff, staff and patrons began searching the water. After a few minutes, police said a patron found DeBruce unresponsive in the water. CPR was administered before the child was taken to Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital by ambulance. DeBruce was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Medina County Coroner’s Office is also investigating.
