STOW, Ohio -- At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, a two-seat Cessna 152 was forced to make an emergency landing on Fishcreek Road in Stow. The plane was being used for a flying lesson out of the Kent State University Airport on Route 59 in Stow.
Video: Plane Forced To Land On Road "We train for this all the time" said instructor, Rob Dumovic. "It was just one of those things where your training kicks in and you do what you're supposed to do. He (student Daniel Dzurec) was flying the airplane at the time, I took control, turned back toward the airport, we weren't going to make it so what we did was, we found the next suitable landing spot which was the road."Dumovic said that the plane lost power just prior to the emergency landing. He said that the plane was operating on idle power. The plane landed just south of Graham Road in the southbound lanes of Fishcreek Road.Dumovic may have been the best person to have on board the plane at the time of the emergency. He recently finished first in the SAFECON 2009 Power Off Landing competition -- a contest run through the National Intercollegiate Flying Association. The competition tests pilots on almost exactly what happened to Dumovic and his student passenger on Saturday morning. Both Kent State Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol were at the scene following the landing. An investigation by the FAA is underway. This photo is courtesy of Kent State University.
