Local Mail Carrier Attacked By Dog

CLEVELAND -- A Cleveland mail carrier was hospitalized Thursday after being attacked by a dog on his route on the city's west side.The incident happened just before noon on Mapledale Avenue, nearl Pearl Road.Neighbors said the letter carrier was walking toward a house when a pit bull came charging out of another home and bit the man all over his body.He suffered injuries to his arms, legs, thigh and chest.A neighbor called 911 for help, and paramedics treated the 62-year-old victim at the scene and then rushed him to MetroHealth Medical Center."I was standing on the porch. The dog came out, and the mailman tried to get his mace but he had no chance. Then the owner pulled the dog back in the house," said neighbor Harry Mosley.The victim has been a letter carrier in Cleveland for 15 years. There is no word on his condition.
