MENTOR, Ohio -- A music teacher with Mentor Schools has been charged in connection with the rape of a female student.

The alleged victim is a Mentor student. Barry Valentine, 35, pleaded not guilty to rape. Prosecutors said he forced a 15-year-old girl into an unwanted sexual relationship.

Prosecutors said the relationship began at a band camp in July 2007 and continued through February 2008.

Valentine, a 10-year veteran of the school district, has no prior criminal record. Police arrested him Friday at his home after having spoken with the alleged victim and her parents.

The district wrote an open letter to all parents on the district's Web site. Police are urging anyone who may have any information about other possible victims should contact authorities.

Valentine teaches music at Mentor's Orchard Hollow and Sterling Morton elementary schools.
