Members of a family suffered injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in hit a donkey Friday morning.

The accident occurred on state Route 83 in Chatham Township in Medina County.

Trooper Dan Kumor said four donkeys escaped from a farm after they knocked down a gate. They began running around Route 83 near Route 162 when one of the donkeys ran in front of a 1996 Ford Windstar driven by Erin Greene, of Wellington.

Greene, who had her four children with her at the time, tried to brake for the donkey but hit it anyway, Kumor said.

The donkey died on the side of the road.

Greene and three of her children suffered minor injuries. One child, a 9-year-old, was transported to Lodi Hospital.

The other three donkeys were captured and returned to the farm.
