Couple Begins Prison Sentence For Keeping Kids In Cages

UPDATED: 10:33 am EDT April 6, 2009

A northern Ohio couple began their two-year prison sentences for forcing their adopted children to sleep in cages.

Michael and Sharen Gravelle showed up separately Monday morning at the Huron County jail in Norwalk.

From there, they'll be sent to two different state prisons to serve their sentences for child endangering and child abuse.

The Gravelles were convicted in December 2006 after authorities said the couple kept some of their 11 special-needs children in wire and wood enclosures.

A judge last week ordered them to serve out their sentences after an Ohio appeals court turned down their request for a new trial.
