Woman Dies After House Explosion; Husband In Serious Condition

EASTLAKE, Ohio -- An Eastlake woman died Thursday following a Wednesday night house explosion and her husband is listed in serious condition.The explosion took place at a house located at 37845 Lakeshore Blvd., near the Willoughby border, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Frank and Alice Pitchler were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center by medical helicopter after the blast.Frank Pitchler suffered burns to multiple areas of his body and his wife, Alice, had multiple muscoskeletal injuries and lacerations.Images: Explosion Destroys HomeMany viewers reported feeling the explosion in surrounding cities and thought it was an earthquake.Fire departments that responded include Eastlake, Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, Willowick, Wickliffe, Kirtland Hills, Mayfield Heights and Mentor.Neighbors said that after the explosion, the man was found sitting in a recliner, calling for help, and his wife was lying on the floor.The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by a joint team of investigators from local fire departments and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
