Jailed Bus Driver's Mother Says Daughter Wouldn't Hurt Child

CLEVELAND -- The mother of a Cleveland school bus driver is defending her daughter, who was arrested after police said she hit a teen on a bicycle and then drove away.Nellie Hill said there is no way her daughter, Cheryl, would knowingly hit a child and just drive away.She said her daughter loved children and would never commit a hit-and-run."She's not that kind of person in the first place. The second place, she loves children. She's got a child of her own. And thirdly, she love children too much and she's been with these kids for 20 years," Hill said.Taylor Price, 14, was hit by a school bus at Fulton and Interstate 71 early Tuesday morning. He remains in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.Cheryl Hill is in jail. She hasn't been charged but police said charges are pending.Cleveland detectives are talking to a parent who helped remove the bicycle that was caught in the bus wheel well.Police are looking for a woman who reported the accident and a man who showed up after the accident and drove the teen's mother to the hospital.Anyone with information that could help police locate these witnesses should call 216-623-5290.
