Cuyahoga Sheriff's Office Lays Off 21 Employees

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department on Friday have layoff notices to18 deputies and three security monitors.

Sheriff Gerald T. McFaul said the layoffs were in response to an 11.5 percent budget cut.

The department is trying to reduce a $4 million deficit for 2009. The department also plans to offer an early retirement plan around midyear, and about 62 employees are expected to participate, McFaul said.

The layoffs, which are effective Jan. 18, will save the department $850,000 this year.
