CLEVELAND -- Cleveland's ArcelorMittal Steel plant is laying off 450 workers, though the company hopes the layoffs will last no longer than six months.

The steel company said the cuts are related to the current economic crisis and hopes to bring back workers as soon as the market conditions improve.

Mittal is reducing production in North America by 40 percent.

The layoffs are effective immediately, the company said.
