Thieves Target Flat-Screen TVs

POSTED: 11:38 am EST November 24, 2008
UPDATED: 1:00 pm EST November 25, 2008

Police said there have been several residential burglaries in Akron that have targeted flat-screen televisions.

Akron police have provided a few tips to avoid becoming a victim.

  • Reconsider the location of your flat-screen TV. Turn the television on at night and then go outside and view your home. If the TV is visible to you from the street or the sidewalk, then potential criminals can be lured to it, too.
  • Appropriately close the blinds and draw the curtains at sundown. Plan ahead if you know you will not return before sundown.
  • Utilize your neighborhood watch group.
  • Secure all doors and windows.
  • Write down serial numbers of important property.
  • Use exterior lighting.
  • Consider setting multiple timers in different areas of the home so that the same light is not constantly on.
