Rain, Waves, Wind Cause Problems For Drivers
Heavy rains pummeled northeast Ohio Saturday, causing danger on the roads, power outages and floodingFor hours mother nature hammered the area with wicked wet weather. High water signs warned drivers of dangerous highways and flashing police lights warned drivers to stay off side streets.Images: Flooded Streets "I was behind a truck and didn't see it. I might have turned around if I would have know it was that deep," said motorist Larry Cannon.He had to have his car rescued by a tow truck."There were other cars -- but gone already -- four or five stuck at least," Cannon said.Gilmore Avenue and 131st Street in Cleveland looked more like a stream than a street. Neighbors said flooding happens often in the spring and fall.The combination of a nearby creek spilling its banks and the nonstop rain was more than debris-filled storm sewers could handle.Police had to warn drivers of what was down the road.The weather also made waves crash along the Lake Erie shore, including along Interstate 90 east of downtown.The high winds took down trees and caused some power outages. Gusts up to 35 mph were reported.
