Parent Accused Of Attacking Youth Football Coach

UPDATED: 6:18 pm EDT September 24, 2008

A Lorain County father was arrested and accused of attacking a coach at a youth football game over the weekend.

Amherst police came to the football field, where 9- and 10-year-olds from Amherst and Midview were battling on the field, and adults were battling off the field.

Police said Eric Frambach, the father of a Midview player, attacked the team's coach.

"Apparently, the parent was yelling to the coach to run a particular play. They ran the play, the coach turns around as says, 'There is your sweep,' and bam, the rest is history," said youth football board member Dennis Szalai.

Szalai said what makes it even worse is that there was a player hurt on the field when the fight started.

"I looked at the player, here is this third- or fourth-grader. This fight occurred within 2 feet of the player. There was no regard for this kid, no clue what happened to him. The boy could have had a serious injury to him. It wasn't, thank God," said Szalai.

Szalai broke up the fight, and then Amherst police showed up and arrested Frambach, charging him with disorderly conduct.

Apparently, what happened on the sidelines left an impression on the 9- and 10-year-olds.

"They were all crying, and the Amherst players and they had a blank look on their faces, like they didn't know what was going on," said Szalai.

The league director said Frambach got a certified letter telling him he is no longer allowed to attend his son's practices or games.

He will be in court next month.
