UPDATED: 4:50 pm EDT September 22, 2008

The former pastor of a Cleveland church pleaded guilty to theft charges on Monday.

Donald Robinson is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from Lane Metropolitan CME.

Prosecutors said the 56-year-old took money from a fund for the poor, stole the identity of a church member and used the church as collateral for illegal loans.

"A man of this status, who was a preacher, got up in court and admitted he stole from the church and took advantage of his position," said Cuyahoga County assistant prosecutor Jim Gutierrez.

Robinson served time in a federal prison after pleading guilty to real estate fraud charges in Mississippi.

He will be sentenced on Oct. 30.
