UPDATED: 7:11 am EDT September 16, 2008

A woman who was trapped in her car for hours after a tree fell on top of it is expected to make a complete recovery.

The mother of 37-year-old Alicia Rivera said her daughter suffered a broken neck and fractured wrist in the accident that took place in Lorain during Sunday's wind storm.

Authorities said Rivera was driving north on Pearl Road when the tree fell on her Nissan Altima. She was trapped for hours while firefighters worked to free her.

Rivera's mother, Evanessa Cordero, said the sun roof on her daughter's car may have saved her life. She said the roof was closed but her daughter's head went through it.

Rivera was airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center. Cordero said she is not expected to need surgery on her neck and should be released within the next couple of days.
