Teen Killed In Crossfire Was Aspiring Singer

Two Teens Charged In Girl's Death

POSTED: 8:14 pm EDT September 4, 2008
UPDATED: 6:57 pm EDT September 5, 2008

The twin sister of a teenage girl killed in the crossfire of a gunfight talked Friday about losing the person she calls her "other half."

Cleveland police arrested and charged two teens in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Joy Cranfield, who was shot twice in the stomach Thursday night on Quincy Avenue.

Marcus Cammon, 17, was charged with murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. Derron Grant, 16, was charged with murder, felonious assault and improper discharging of a firearm. Grant was arrested at the scene, and Cammon surrendered at the Justice Center Thursday night.

Cranfield and her identical twin, Jasmine, called themselves "2 Much" and dreamed of making it big together. The sisters wrote and recorded hip-hop music.

Jasmine Cranfield spoke to NewsChannel5 about her sister's death.

"That's my other half. It's like peanut butter and jelly. My jelly's gone now, and I'm about to be stuck dry. That's how I feel," she said.

Joy Cranfield's aunt had a message for the alleged shooters Friday.

"What story did you have to tell after she got shot? I just really want to know what their conversation was after she was shot. What, 'I shot somebody?' You're proud of that?" said Tiffany Powers.

"I just know it's destiny for one of us to make it because I always knew in my heart we were going to make it, so now she's gone and I really gotta do what I gotta do," Jasmine Cranfield said.

18-Year-Old Fatally Shot

According to Cleveland police Lt. Thomas Stacho, a dispute involving two groups took place at East Tech High School earlier Thursday. Two of the people involved in the dispute apparently returned to the area about 4:30 p.m. Thursday and at least one of them had a gun, police said.

Joy Cranfield was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died in surgery.

According to juvenile court records, Cammon has a prior drug possession charge. Grant has no prior record.

The teens could be tried as adults.

Funeral arrangements for Joy Cranfield are pending.
