Woman Goes To Jail For Dying Child Scam

Zolnowski Gets 30 Days In Jail

POSTED: 11:04 am EDT September 2, 2008

A woman who scammed people out of money by claiming her young daughter had leukemia was sentenced Tuesday.

Judge Christopher Collier sentenced Amanda D. Zolnowski, 20, to 30 days in jail, three years of community control and 200 hours of community service.

Zolnowski was charged with forgery in May.

Police said she told fellow students and employees at Raphael's School of Beauty that her child was dying, who in turn rallied around the woman and raised money.

When some people began to get suspicious of Zolnowski's story, police became involved.
