Police Discover 33 Rounds In Student's Duffel Bag

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio -- Police arrested a 15-year-old Willoughby South High School student Tuesday accused of firing two shots inside the school.Police said the school was on lockdown for nearly an hour Tuesday morning as a principal and assistant principal convinced the sophomore to put down the gun.Witnesses said the boy walked into a classroom and said he wanted to speak to a girl. When she raised her hand, he asked her how she was, then said goodbye and went into the hallway while slamming the classroom door.Police said the boy put the .40-caliber handgun to his head after firing once into a trophy case and once into the ceiling. No one was injured.Images: Shots Fired At School | Share Your Thoughts Police said they found at least 33 more rounds in the gun and in a duffel bag.After receiving text messages from their children about the situation, parents began rushing to the school to find out what happened. The school does not have any metal detectors but parents want them to be installed immediately.The 1,500 students were released early from school after being on lockdown and undergoing evacuations.The school will be open on Wednesday but school officials said counselors will be on hand to talk to students.The teen has not been officially charged. He was taken to Windsor-Laurelwood Center in Willoughby for evaluation.
